Have a good weekend everyone!

My dad did make it home, by some miracle. I’ll never know how he gets around without me. Of course, maybe its all a big scam…maybe he just goes around the block and sits all day waiting until 4pm when he usually comes home and then walks in the door like he’s been at work all day…yeah, that must be it because I’m sure he needs me to navigate for him otherwise.
Anyway, have I mentioned that I’ve been having skin trouble? Well, I have and mom decided she was going to wage a war again the hot spots and she is finally winning. I was taking benedryl everyday but now I’m on an antibiotic and it seems to be clearing up. Also, I get to have bath in oatmeal shampoo twice a week. Yes, I said, I get to…I like my oatmeal baths. For example, mom was kinda disappointed yesterday morning when she ran a bath for herself and went into her closet to get her clothes, I jumped into the bathtub. When she came in she said “Aw, Mackie!- Have you stolen mommies bath?” and I wagged my tail to say that I had which of course just made her laugh. I knew then that I was in and I’d get a good oatmeal scrubbing. Oh, it felt so good! This morning, Finnegan got a bath because mom said something about him going on a trip with them tomorrow. I can’t imagine that they would take that little punk and leave me at home.
(Note from mom: As I have mentioned before, Mackie is a terrible traveler! He has too much anxiety and is hard to handle on long trips…Finnegan is a good traveler and rides very nicely.)
Seems mom and dad are going to some family reunion in Pennsylvania tomorrow and my grandma is going too. Oh how I love my grandma. I know grandma will talk them into letting me go too…right, grandma??? ….grandma???...hello.., grandma??...This isn’t looking good for me.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Sitting at home....

I’m not really sure what is going on today because I’m at home and no one is around. Well, Ollie and Finnegan are home, but I mean people. Usually, when mom and dad go to work, Ollie and I go to grandma and grandpa’s house, but dad didn’t take us with him today and I’m worried. He may not know where he is, or how to get home! You see, I usually stand on the center console in the Rover and tell dad how to get places and without me, we may never see him again. Still not sure why we couldn’t go to grandpa’s today but now I’m most worried that we’ll never see dad again. He certainly can’t find his was around the sprawling city that we live in without me there as a guide.

(Mom: Mackie, you dad can get around fine. He was driving for years before you came around and besides, Easton is a very small little town.)

Don’t listen to mom. She has no idea what I’m talking about. Besides, it took me years to train her before I ever had to start with dad. Sheez, people.

Have a good weekend everyone!!

Happy Birthday to some of my bestest pals!!

It's been weeks now since I've written, and about the same time
since I have even visited my blog or anyone else's. Sorry I've been so
out of it. My little brother Finnegan (that's him running in the picture)had his first birthday on August 2 and mom and I agreed that we didn't feel much like doing a blog celebration so soon after losing dear Oscar. Since Oscar was just a
little pup too, it seemed kinda weird to say good-bye to a good friend and
celebrate something within a few days.

Finnegan did have a nice birthday though. Mom took him off to camp and
they had a birthday party for him there with all of his doggie camp
pals. He even had frosty-paws and came home wearing a bandana that they
gave him that said Birthday Boy! I have only one thing to say-
S-P-O-I-L-E-D!!!
Finnegan was so tired from all the play and his birthday
party that he was too tired to come out of his crate for dinner that
night! Heheheh! Mom says it was the single quietest night we've have
since Finnegan came along! So anyway, my little brother is growing up.
He's about as tall as I am now, but much slimmer still. Finn weighs in
at 20 lbs and, well, let's just say I'm a lot more than that ; ) Finnegan and I get along famously. We love to romp and play and wrestle (I always win of course!) but he is a fast little guy and I can never catch him if he doesn't want me too.

Anyway, I want to say Happy Birthday to my great pal, Bogart and Jackson! Yesterday was Bogarts 2nd birthday and today is Jackson's birthday. Happy birthday pals! I hope you have as much fun as Finney did and that you get frosty paws and lots of lovin'!!!

OSCAR (Sherifs Sundance Kid -May, 2006-July-2007)

I am in total shock. I just can't believe what I have just read. I got a message from Maggie to check Oscar's blog. I am so sad to say that the news is not good. Our dear friend Oscar passed away on Saturday morning. He had been sick only a short time and still unknown exactly what caused it. He was so young. He was only 1 in May, just a puppy.
We are so sad and are crying for Katy and Martin because we know how much this hurts and how sad they must be. Please join us in sending healing thoughts and prayers to them.
Rest in peace, dear buddy. You will be missed.

Swimmers!

Mom has been pretty busy lately working and stuff so she and dad have worked out a pretty nice system to make it up to us. Every Saturday night for the past few weeks, mom and dad have been taking us out to some park like place where we can see people and boats and all kinds of stuff. The best part about it is that mom and dad let us get in the water...well, that is they let Finnegan and I get in the water and lately just Finnegan because I have been having skin problems and mom won't let me in. Ollie doesn't have much interest in the water and besides if he gets wet he is wet for a week. (Well that is an exaggeration but mom always says it, so I will too!)

Little Finnegan has decided he really likes the water and has been playing in my sprinkler out back too. I may have to eat him for this. It is most definitely MY sprinkler and I didn't see anything about sharing him in the agreement mom and I had when she asked if she could bring home another WFT. Sheez.

On a bad note, I've been having skin problems all of the sudden. Mom has always felt lucky because she knows of so many WFT's who have skin problems and I have always done so well. Not really sure why I have them. Mom and Dad have had me on a really high quality food and treats too, but still I have been getting hot spots. Mom got a new bag of Natural Balance Potato and Duck formula for allergies and we'll see if that helps. I sure hope so; I'm tired of being itchy!

Sparky's Story

Today I'm going to break the rules. Sometimes it just has to be done. My mom wants to tell you all about a special little rescue dog that was here a few days ago and the wonderful people who adopted him.

I'd like to share with you all a pretty nice story - I think, anyway.
In late June I got an email from a lady who said she saw a wire fox terrier
in a shelter in Delaware. Since I am the Eastern Shore of Maryland and
Delaware volunteer for Fox Terrier rescue I called the shelter to
inquire about him. The said they had him but it was the first day he was
eligible for adoption so they wouldn't work with rescue. I asked for
them to take my name and number and to call me should anything change and
asked them to please not put him down if he is not adopted. Some
shelters don't like to work with rescue groups so I figured it was one of
those cases and thought I'd call back in a week and start bothering
them again. Last Friday I got the call from the shelter. He had been up
for adoption for a week and no one was interested so they were going ot
put him to sleep. I was out of town in the Southwestern corner of PA.
I told them I couldn't come but the lady promised they would hold him
for me until Tuesday. So Tuesday I left early from work and drove to Wilmington DE to get the fella. He was in awful condition. Filthy, matted hair, feces all over
him, long toenails, stunk to high-heaven, had dirt and wax and God
only knows caked in his ears and was flea ridden. Amazing that he was up
for adoption in this condition. I told them who I was and they asked if
I had seen the dog, when I said I had they asked if I still wanted him.
(Imagine that...). His name was Sparky and he was an owner surrender
because the owners said they were moving and could not take him with them. (the
very best thing that could have ever happened to him) I paid the
fee and got him out of there. He had a full out panic attack being put into the
crate in my car. When I got him home I interacted with him a bit and took
him to the basement to get cleaned up. I worked on him for about three
hours. I clippered him down, trimmed his nails, but out the matts and
gave him a flea dip. He never flinched. He was perfectly fine with me doing all of this to him. When he got out of the sink he ran around the basement totally excited and ran over and wrapped his little paws around me and literally hugged me. Wow. What a boy. Hard to think that something this sweet could have been treated so poorly. Soon I found out a few things about him. He has terrible separation anxiety. No way to tell is this is a longtime issue or just caused by his recent he could leap a foot foot fence with no problem at all. Great Houdini. But he is a sweet, easy, calm dog who got along beautifully with my three boys and had a gentle, special little soul. Amazing little boy especially considering all he'd been through.
Since I already have the three boys at home (and are transporting two smooths over
the weekend) I couldn't keep him long. Thankfully a lady who has helped with rescue offered to foster him for me. Meanwhile another rescuer sent me three of the apps she
had on file, one of whom already had the vet check, additional reference
and home visit done. One of the apps really stood out. A couple, she is a retired registered nurse, he is a physician. She has has wires, schnauzers, scotties, and welshies. Some of them were rescues throughout the years. I spoke with her by phone she was touched by his story and was concerned that he had to go to foster when he already had separation anxiety. I sent her a picture of him and she liked him. This was a wonderful woman. She and her husband really wanted him. We discussed having her come over the weekend, but instead she and her husband drove 2.5 hours to meet me with him last night. I could tell by her face the minute she saw him, she was in love with him. Not long after our meeting, I said to them, "He's such a great little easy boy. I think you will grow to love him" and the man said "I think I already do". So sweet and touching. He is going to a wonderful, safe, secure, patient home and his whole life just turned around from horrible to marvelous in 48 hours. No question that he will have issues that he will have to overcome, but I really think this guy has found a gift. Its amazing to me how things can change so quickly because of wonderful people like this who are anxious to open their homes and hearts to a little dog that needs a little extra. Just amazing.
My husband went with me last night. He has seen dogs come through the house, he knows about a lot of the work that is involved with them and knows that oftentimes I'm not where he wants me to be because I'm transporting some dog or something. Last night after Sparky drove off with his new family, Steve said he finally understands why people do this.

Mackie's mommy

So there is Sparky's story, via my mom. I have to admit, he was a nice little guy. I tried to get her to take Ollie to those nice people instead, but she said they wanted a wft, not a Bearded Collie...duh, mom...doesn't everyone?

4. Who is your favorite person other than the people you live with? Um, Um,...too many! Aunt Michelle, Grandma Sheila, Grandma Eve, Grandpa Dan and oh, yes, I do love my Aunty Robin too!

5. How much do you weigh? Oh I hate this question! About 33 lbs

6. Most expensive thing you’ve ever chewed up? I pretty much stick with my toys..

7. Do you like other Dogs? I like some, mistrust most...

8. Who is your best non-human friend? My dear little pain in the butt brother, Finnegan!

9. Squeaky Toys or Tennis Balls? Squeakies inside the house, tennis balls outside!

10. Do you like to be brushed? I like to have my back brushed. I'll bite you if you try to brush my back legs....grrrrr!

11. Peanut Butter or Cheese? CHEESE!!?/ Did you say CHEESE??? (Where is it??)

12. Do your people cut your toenails? Yup and they stink at it...good thing they have that stop bleeding stuff or I'd die from a loss of blood.

13. Any formal education? Yup!

14. Couch potato or Energizer Bunny? Both! I have times of doing both and I'm good at both!

15. Five nicknames your people call you? Mommy's Baby, Mackie Doodle, Punk, Bud, Baby Boy

22. Do you like to swim? Uppy!

23. Can you make puppies? Nope. (There are too many puppies anyway!)

24. Do you give kisses? Oh yes! My Aunt Amy says I give rape kisses cause I'll hold you down and kiss you wheather you like it or not!! (You'll like it, I promise!) heheheh!

25. Can you potty on command? I'm open to suggestions.

26. To Cuz or not to Cuz? Oh yes, I LOVE my cuz ball. I eat its feet off athen I de squeak it and then I squeeze it and blow the air out of it! What a fun toy!!

How humiliating!

Mo's been on a kick lately. Last week I got a haircut and nw this week mom gave me a bath and ANOTHER haircut!! Can you believe that? And she massacred me! I admit I don't let mom brush my back legs...I HATE it! She can brush the rest of me and thats okay...on second thought, maybe not, I won't let her brush my belly either, but when she gets the brush out, I come running. I love to have my back bushed and my mustashe is pretty good too...I can't say I care for her brushing my front paws, but dare not touch my back legs or I'll snap and if her hand is in the way, well so be it. (Yes, I have to admit I will bite when provoked) (Note from mom: It doesn't take much to "provoke" Mackie. Sometimes he just gets grouchy and we all stay out of his way! He also hates to be told "no" and of course having his back legs brushed sets him off...let's see so does having his feet touched while he's sleeping) Enough of that mom! I'm trying to tell everyone what a horrible job you did on my hair. So anyway, because I won't let mom brush my back legs regularly, my hair was matted. So mom decided to put me ont eh grooming table in the basement and muzzle me! The indignity!!! Then she proceeded to brush my back legs before she realized that a brush would'nt get through it! heheheh! Then she tried the Coat King to no avail, then the matt cutter and I have to admit here that I let out a little cry (just to jerk her chain of course, it never really hurt!) and she gave in. I thought that meant she would let me off that darn table, but instead she shaved my back legs!! Urgh! A WFT missing his rear furnishings! I look silly! I look bow-legged! (note from mom: He does look silly and he looks FAT!!heheheh But I had no choice. This is a good lesson to Mackie that he is just going to have to let me brush his back legs when the rest of him is getting brushed!)
I'm humiliated....

Where in the heck was I ????

I can tell you that I'm not so happy. Seems Mom and Dad went to Philly to see a bike race and visit Daniella, Ron and Axel and guess who stayed home? ME! What's worse is who do they take with them?? FINNEGAN!!! This is an outrage! This has got to stop! This little fella comes into the house, and don't get me wrong, I like the little guy, but to take him and leave me at home???

(Note from mom: Mackie is a TERRIBLE traveler! He whines and prances and is so much work! Besides, he would never be able to be around all the noise from the bike race- the sirens, the motorcycles, the loud music....Mackie doesn't do well at all arund these things despite what he's telling you!)

Anyway, I see on Axel's blog that they had a wonderful time! I think they have A LOT of making up to do! I WANT ICE CREAM!!!

Its the weekend! Woohoo! Its the weekend! Woohoo! Its the weekend...you get the idea, right!
I'm hoping mom will be home more this weekend then she has in the past several weeks. Seems there is always something that takes her and dad away from home. I know she said she was going to volunteer at some adopt-a-thon on Saturday to help find homeless dogs a new place to live. As long as that isn't our house, that's okay by me!
Have a good weekend everyone~!~

Little brothers!

So I've been pretty busy being a big brother to Finnegan. He relies on me to play with him, run with him, wrestle with him, go with him on walks and generally tell him how things go around here. He's a pretty quick learner and I'd admit I have grown to love the little fella. Here is a picture of me kissing Finn. I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea, I 'm all about the girls and all (Ms. Sunshade, Opy, Banba!!) but still a little brother needs to know he's loved sometimes. Besides, he gives me something to do and is pretty good for me waist line too! So pretty much havig a little brother rocks! Actually I like it even better than blogging so I'm sorry that I don't blog so much anymore, playng with Finn is so much more fun!!

Farewell Friend

It is with heavy heart I have to tell you of a great Wire Fox Terrier's passing. Nigel Precott -"American-born statesdog, philosopher, adventurer, essayist, barrister, mixologist, canine behaviorist, pioneering dog blogger and ball player (he sometimes went by "Shoeless Nige") died Saturday, April 28, 2007 in his doggie dad's arms at a veterinary clinic in Palm Harbor, Florida.
He died of complications from living an extremely long and happy life.
He was somewhere between 15-and-a-half or 17.
Nigel was timeless, but he was not ageless." Please visit Nigel's amazing blog to read about this boy. Wow. It left me speechless and that's saying something for a WFT.
Nigel's blog will now be penned by his little sis, Gimlet who is also a writer extraordinaire.
Rest in peace dear friend. Here's to an amazing life.

The new puppy rocks!!

Sorry its been so long since I've updated, having a new brother is exhausting. It seems mom relies on Ollie and I to do some babysitting and I have to correct Finnegan occasionally when he misbehaves. But really, all and all, we all love the new fella. Actually mom says she never expected it, but I will wrestle and run with him. I have yet to allow her to video tape it though. She has caught Ollie playing with him and Finnegan playing with one of our cousins, Cracker.
Who would have guessed that we would have loved him so?

It's MY ball!

Mom decided that I should put some photos of me and Finnegan on the blog. So, she asked us to go outside and play and be nice to each other. Only thing is though that Finnegan is still a silly puppy. Nevermind sitting still, mom can't get him to stop messing with me long enough to get a decent photo because I constantly have to defend my turf. Here the silly puppy thinks its a good idea to take my ball. Can you imagine? I have killed for less. (note from mom: Mackie hasn't actually KILLED anything except a squirrel, a few moles and a few bugs.)

So here I am with MY ball.

Then here is Finnegan with MY ball.

Here is Finnegan realizing that I see HIM WITH MY BALL.

Then this is what happens when Finnegan gets MY ball.

Get the idea?

Puppy update

So, I couldn't get my blogger to work! How frustrating! Sorry guys! Anyway, I wanted to say that things here are going along well. Finnegan is fitting in well and we really like him. He and Ollie are truly buds and love to run and run in the backyard. Mom loves Ollie for this as he tends to wear the puppy out so he sleeps better! As mom says, a tired puppy is a good puppy!
Here is a new photo of Finnegan looking very tired.
Anyway, mom was pretty happy to get a call on Sunday from Finnegan's breeder, Mary Raggett. Mary was just checking in on him and wanted to meet his new family.
Mary was really nice an sent a photo of Finn's mom. Her name is Edenshire Cricklewood Tufluv, but they call her Jade. What a girl!! She is a beauty!!
Also here is a photo of Finnegan's dad. His name is Dalriada's The Boss, but they call him Bruce. Funny how his name is "The Boss" since I everyone knows that I'm the boss!!! heheheh!

Finnegan, Begin-Again!!

Sorry I have been away from my bloggin' duties but I've been so busy! Thigs have really changed around here and I'm starting to understand what poor Miss Sunshade has been going through with Jaffa....mom went and did it...I told her not too....I begged her not to, but she did anyway...I have a new brother....
Everyone, meet Finnegan! I call him Finnegan Begin-Again!! He's a 7 month old WFT puppy that mom took in last week. Finnegan's name was Cheddar, but mom decided to change it, kinda like she did with my name when I came to live here. I used to be Buddy, but mom renamed me MacInturff after friends of her's and decided to call me Mackie. Anyway, back to ol'Finnegan. He's a complete fool! He runs and plays with no abandon! He does all kinds of things mom tells him not to do like climbing inside of the dishwasher, knocking over the trashcan, grabbing shoes and running off with them and I could keep going on and on...boy does mom have her hands full, and I do too! This little fella needs a big brother to teach him the ropes and to remind him of all the things other dogs (like me and Ollie) just won't put up with like jumping on our backs, stealing our toys, humping us and most importantly getting love from mom. That is a real no, no. Other than those things, we all get along well! He can be fun, I guess. He likes to play in the backyard and no I have someone else to blame for my stinkies!!!heheheh!
So, now you see why I haven't been around much. I have a full time job....urgh, mom. Don't you think she should have gotten my permission first? : )

Sleepy, clean boy!

True to her word, mom sent me for grooming on Wednesday. Boy am I tired from it! Grandma and grandpa laughed because when I came home I collapsed on the ottoman and didn’t get up until dad came to get me.
Anyway, mom says they did a good job on me, but she thinks they did a better job on my face last time. She says I look a bit like a schnauzer or a Lakeland Terrier. Oh well! As long as she doesn’t send me back!
I want to say special prayers for my new friend, Jackson. Jackson’s mommy said he has cancer on his parathyroid gland and that he gets surgery for it next week. The great news about this is that the cancer is very treatable, so we expect a full recovery for Jackson! Anyway, we’re praying for you buddy! I think that Jackson and I look a lot alike he could be the other long lost brother of me and Gussie!
Also, I wanted to say welcome back to my one and only WFT gal, Banba! I see on Banba’s blog that her mommy left her at home and made up for it by getting her a great big beef bone. I notice that I had to get bathed twice in a week and didn’t event get a beef bone. Urgh!

Have a good weekend everyone!!!

There is something to be said for being TOO clean!

I had a nice weekend except that mom gave me a bath again. I swear that woman is obsessed with my cleanliness. I kept telling her that my girlfriends Sunshade, Opy and Maggie would want me to smell all manly and stuff, but alas, she insisted and into the tub I went. Actually, I like being in the tub and playing with the water, its just the stupid shampooing I don’t like. Mom says I am a really good boy when I get groomed because I like water, I love to be brushed and I like the hair dryer thingy too. Oh, and she likes it how I run around the house like a mad man when I’m all wet. She chases me saying, “Mackie, don’t get on my bed!” Heheheh! The bummer of it all is that I have an appointment to be groomed on Wednesday. Two baths in one week, mom? That's overkill! (note from mom: Mackie was VERY dirty and smelly...he HAD to have a bath or sleep somewhere else!!)
A pal of mine has joined us in bloggerland. His name is Jackson and he lives in Britain. Jackson is a 7 year old WFT and mighty handsome too.
Mom found this old picture of two lovely little WFT girls. Aren’t they a hoot? I keep telling mom that I need a WFT girlfriend. I’m a real lover so I think I need a little girl to cozy up to when I’m lying around in sun puddles during the day. Kinda like Butchy and Snickers! Everytime Butchy and Snickers post a picture of them lying together I get a little closer to getting a little girl of my very own! Keep it up, Butchy!

Pippin's Mighty Tail

Its been very cold and snowy in New York and my pal Pippin decided he was going to dig out! I've been waiting for him to dig all the way to Maryland to visit me! Isn't that just the funniest picture? Mom says us WFT's have the cutest little tushies! Stay warm, Pip! I wish I had some snow to dig in!

I want to say Happy Birthday to my long lost brother, Gus in Arizona! Happy Birthday dear pal!

I also wanted to tell everyone that our sweet Banba is back! Her computer was down and she finally is back to blogging, so stop by and say hi to her!

Oh, and I want to send many sweet kisses to my girl Sunshade since she sent me the loveliest Valentine's Card! (Of course, I still send kisses to my girl Opy and to my newest girl, Maggie!) Awwwww- girls! Sweet smelling kissy girls! Life is just hte best!

Happy Valentine's Day!

I want to wish all my friends Happy Valentine's Day, especially my special girls Sunshade, Opy and Maggie! I hope they will be my valentine! Oh, what pretty girls! Kisses, kisses, kisses to you all!

Monday, February 05, 2007

Brrrrrrrrrr! Baby, its cold outside!

Wow is it cold! It is 18 degrees right now and I even have my sweater on inside the house. How do you like that jacket on me? Butchy and Snickers momma made it for me and I wasn't sure if it was ever gone to get cold enough this year to wear it- boy was I wrong! Its a cool jacket though- denim with a fly boy collar! Mom says I lok very handsome in it. Of course I do! I always look handsome!

All this cold weather makes me very glad for my mm and dad and warm house and makes me very sad for all the doggies out there who don't have homes and worse yet, whose families choose to chain them outside in the frigid cold. I bet a lot of doggies will go to the rainow bridge in this cold. There is a great group of people called Dogs Deserve Better who work really hard to educate people about chaining us dogs. Mommy and I appreciate all the work they do.
Oh, hey, did I tell you tat we had a weekend of birthday's at my house? Saturday was my Daddy's birthday and Sunday was Ollie's birthday. Ollie turned 5 years old. As you may remember I turned 6 years old last November. Sometimes mommy says it worries her that Ollie and I are so close in age. She always seems to bring it up everytime she is talking about getting another dog.I don't see what that has to do with anything! Besides, who needs another dog around here? We had Ajax for a while and just as I grew to love him, they found a new home for him. What is THAT all about? (Mommy note: Mackie, Ajax was a foster dog. That means he is only here for a short time until we found him his forever home.) Whatever, mom. I think the woman would have a kennel of wayward dogs around here if dad would let her. Stand firm dad!

Resolutions seem to mean "Don't do it!"

I know I’ve been awful about updating my blog. Have you ever noticed
that once you make a new year’s resolution to do something that it is
like cursing it? I resolved to blog more and now I blog less than I did
before even, besides, I haven’t been feeling too well lately. Both
Ollie and I caught some kind of flu and went to grandmas and got sick all
over the rugs. I’m sorry for that too, since grandma and grandpa are
so nice to let us come and stay with them during the day when mom and
dad are at work. Have I ever told you that before? Yup! Every morning
during the week Ollie and I get in the Rover with dad and head over to
grandma and grandpas. That way we aren’t left at home all by ourselves
during the day AND we get treats without mom saying we can’t or we
are on a diet or some silly stuff like that! I love to go to grandma and
grandpas! We get lots of treats, get to go outside each and every time
we ask and I get to sleep on the ottoman by grandpa’s feet when he
takes a nap. We are nap buddies!
By the way, I want to congratulate Bussie on his new sister, Janie and
tell him how proud mommy and I are of him for being so nice to Janie
since she came to stay with them. Great job, Bussie! Poor Janie hasn’t
had the best of lives, so I am so glad that she gets to live with
Bussie and his wonderful mommy!

Waffles!

Everyone, meet Waffles! Isn't he a cutie? Waffles is a 3 year old wire who needs some help. He has been rescued from a shelter in Austin,Texas, but Waffles needs a home, or at very least he needs someone to take him and foster him until his forever home can be found. Can you help?
He's a good boy, seems to get along with other dogs and kids and has been neutered and is up to date on his shots. It wasn't his fault he was in the shelter as animal control took him from his previous owners.
If you can help by adopting Waffles- or by providing a foster home for him, please contact Julie Covey at coveyjulie@yahoo.com
SOmeone please take him before I end up with yet another brother! heheheheh!

I'm starving!

So I haven’t been so good with all my New Year’s resolutions. I have not been real good about blogging more- in fact, I think I have blogged less since the start of the New Year. I’ve been busy- so sue me! I can tell you one thing though I was hoping that mom would forget about the New Year’s Resolution for me to loose weight- but NO! I’ve been half starved since the start of the New Year! If she keeps this up my pals are not going to recognize me! I’m going to need to be rescued! American Fox Terrier Rescue where are you? Starving dog here! Help! What? You would take me from my mommy? Oh! In that case, I’ll stay here!

MY DOG AND ME

My mom found this poem and she said it reminded her of me (except for the not very smart bit!) Wha tis THAT supposed to mean anyway?

MY DOG AND ME

My dog must be blind
not to see
my wrinkles
graying hair
expanding belly
Or, maybe, she just doesn't care
and loves me anyway.
She's not very smart but
she's mine
and loves me anyway
And maybe,
just maybe,
Next time I feel weird about me
I can borrow
her eyes.

New Year's Resolutions!

Happy New Year Everyone! I'm hoping that 2007 is a wonderful year for all doggies and humans alike!

Ready to play a little game? I'm going to list my 5 New Year's resolutions and then tag five friends...then those friends will have to name their 5 New Year's Resolutions and tag five of their friends...get it?
Okay, my 5 New Year's Resolutions:

1. I had to go to the Doctor over the break because my tummy was upset and the Doctor said I have to loose weight...can you believe it? Apparently I'm an 8 on a scale of 1-10...It's all muscle of course! So, I guess I resolve to return to my pre-holiday studliness.

2. I resolve to blog more! My blog has been a great way to make new friends so I resolve to blog more an eat less!

3. I resolve to try to be nicer to any and all little rescue pups mom may bring into and through our house...after all, they won't be staying. Right? Right? Mom? Hello, they will be leaving, right? Sheez...

4. I resolve to make an effort to get Ollie in trouble more and me in trouble less! heheheheheh! (everyone knows he's to blame anyway!)

5. I resolve to talk to my agent to go on a world tour to visit my friends...Malaysia, Singapore, Australia- Here I come!

Now, I will tag my good friends, Butchy and Snickers, Buster, Gussie, Sunshade and Opy!

Santa Claus is coming!

I got groomed yesterday and now I am ready for Christmas! Mom said that Santa brings extra gifts for little pups who are especially handsome. So here I am, Santa! Hehehehehe!
Like I said, yesterday we went to the groomer and it was a long, long day. Grandma and Grandpa dropped Ollie and I off at 8am and we weren’t ready to be picked up until 3:30 pm. There were three other Bearded Collies there too. I see now why Ollie likes to go so much. It’s kind of funny, but the place where we go, they raise and show Bearded Collies and Welsh Terriers. They have the same taste in doggies that my folks do! Mom says she feels really good about us going there since they really know how to do us up right and they are so nice to us. Funny thing though, when Grandma came to pick us up she asked how we were and the lady told her that Ollie bit her! Yes, Ollie! Now, Ollie is a bearded collie and all and everyone thinks he’s so sweet, but he does have a habit of biting when he is groomed and someone hits a mat or a sensitive spot on him. See! Everyone thinks I’m the biting dog! Ha, Ha! Thankfully, Ollie didn’t break her skin and she said she was okay. She also reported that I was a complete gentleman! Double Ha, Ha!
So now I’m clean and handsome and ready for Santa!

Here comes Santa Claus!
Here comes Santa Claus!
Right to Mackie’s house!
Santa’s bringing a duck and a ball
and a great big squeaky mouse!
Mommy is singing and I am springing
in fantastic wiry height.
I’ll get a ball and new teddybear,
'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight!

I've been Christmas tagged!

I've been tagged by Butchy and Snickers in a new Christmas game. Here are the rules of the game:

The player of this game starts with "3 things he/she would love to get for Christmas" and also has to list "3 things he/she definitely does not want to get for Christmas". Then he/she tags 5 friends and list their names. The ones who get tagged need to write on their blogs about their Christmas wishes, as well as state this rule clearly, then tag 5 more victims. And the one who tags need to leave a comment that says "you've been Christmas tagged!" in their comments and tell them to read your blog.

So here goes-
Three things I would love to get for Christmas...hmmnnn,
1. The first thing I would like to get for Christmas is the end to all puppymills.
2. The second thing I would like to get for Christmas is a warm and loving home for all doggies on Earth.
3. My final Christmas wish is for a new honking duck for me every week! hehehehe!

The three things I definitely do not want for Christmas are:
1. Another brother.
2. A diet (mom has been threatening...my belly is getting kinda big lately!)
3. Any more unresponsible doggy breeding!

Okay, so now I'll tag-

Banba
Bogie
Ozzy
Comet and Blu
Maggie the Airedale

How The Mackie Stole Christmas

He flew down the steps and into the yard
He did it so fast, it caught them off guard.
He didn't think twice; he didn't take pause
It took just a minute, but he killed Santy Claus.

Christmas cards and Christmas spirit

It's finally December! Almost Christmas and boy, am I getting some Christmas cards! So far, I've gotten about 20 Christmas cards from all over the world and right here close to me. I even have friends who not only live in the same sate, but right here on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. That's Sue and Derby. Derby is another WFT and a really cool one at that!
I have gotten cards from Australia (including from my sweetheart, Opy!), a card from England, a card from Canada and many from here in the states. This is oh, so cool! I can't say for sure, but I think my Miss Sunshade came up with the idea....she is brilliant after all. All these Christmas cards are really making me anxious for Christmas! I can't wait to see what my mom and dad will get me and what Santa will bring me too! But, I have to say that it makes me think about all the little doggies out there without homes, without food and proper medical care. A good friend of mine just told me that at this time of the year many of the local shelters are in need of blankets to keep the doggies from lying on the cold cement. They also need canned doggie food to help the malnourished pups get some weight on. Many of us have old blankets in our closets that we could share, right? And many of us could pick up a case of canned dog food when we are at Wal-Mart or something, right? What about all those Christmas gifts? Don't you think that you could shop a little bit less and give a little bit of money to your local SPCA or Humane Society? It all counts! How about it guys? Let's plan to help the less fortunate pups this year! Whatta say?

Turkey day, come and gone...but what? I missed Miss Sunshade's Birfday????

I did the most horrific thing. I didn't even know that I had done it until today when I looked at Miss Sunshade's blog. I missed her birfday. Can you believe it? I can't! My girl, My SuperDale! She turned 7 and I missed it! Urgh. I feel awful. I feel lower than a snakes belly! Miss Sunshade, I beg your forgiveness! Mom wouldn't let me anywhere near my laptop all weekend. With Turkey day we had lots of guests. Mom said I had to stay focused on who was already at my house rather than to surf the net. She clearly doesn't understand what a responsibility I have to my blogger friends. Sheez.

We did have a nice turkey day though. My grandma and grandpa from both sides came to visit, as did my favorite person, Aunt Michelle. We had a houseful and it was fun! (all except Ollie's incessant barking that nearly made mom and grandma through a certifiable grand mal fit!).

Then mom and dad were home with us for a few days afterward. It was wonderful! I didn't know that you got presents for Turkey Day, but Mom got me this nice new Alpine sweater....don't I just look like quite the stud? (hehehehe!)
I hope all my doggie pals and their families had a wonderful holiday too!

Miss Sunshade. What a girl! Ahhhh!

I'm in love!

Yesterday was my birthday. I am now 6 years old. I have yet to convince my mommy that that means I am old enough to hop a plane for Vancover where my honey is- that's right, the one and only Miss Sunshade!

As I said, yesterday was my birthday. It was a good day, (except for the part when grandma brought home bag full of toys and I got into them and she told me I couldn't have them because it wasn't Christmas- hey!) It WAS my birthday afterall. Can't a guy catch a break around here.

Anyway, when I got home mom and dad had gotten me a nice toy (I've included a video of me playing with it). It is a little blue mouse and it squeals- not the normal sound, but it really squeals. That was pretty good and so was the special dinner and yogurt I got. BUT, nothing compared to what I got in the mail. I got a love card from Miss Sunshade. It even had her beautiful paw print on it and a kiss inside. There was also a beautiful tag for me. How sweet! How totally awesome! I swear, I think she loves me too! I could even smell your heavenly scent al over the card! How wonderful! Miss Sunshade, if you are reading this, you are just the greatest!

NOW THAT'S A HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

What a weekend!

What a weekend! Ollie and I had a great, but exhausting weekend. On Friday, Mom and Dad took off and we went to Pennsylvania to Bedford, where my mommies grandmother is from to do some Antiquing and stuff. We got to take my grandma and grandpa too. Ollie rode in the way back of the van and I sat on mom’s lap almost all the way. I got to see all kinds of things like horses and cows and lots of big trucks and some earth moving equipment on trailers. (I hate earth moving equipment!) From there, we went to Altoona and saw some huge trucks moving right behind each other on rails. Dad said those things were called trains. I didn’t like them very much since they were so loud and moved funny. After that we made the trip home. It was about 5 hours each way and I sat on mom’s lap the whole time. Mom said I gave her a headache since I’m not a very good traveler. I take offense to that! Just since I whine a lot and pace a lot and cry bloody murder if they put me in my seatbelt doesn’t mean that I’m a bad traveler. Sheezz!

Then on Saturday, Mom and Dad took us for a nice walk in town and there were lots of people around. Mom said it was because there was a festival there called the Waterfowl Festival. I don’t know what Waterfowl are or why they are celebrating them, but I thought they had a pretty day to do it! It was warm! Mom and Dad stayed home with us most of the day working in the garage so I got to chase plenty of squirrels and stay outside a lot which I love.

Then on Sunday we got back in the car and went to see my other grandma and grandpa on the farm. I love it there, but there are a lot of smells that scare me. Anyway, when I got there my Uncle LJ and Aunt Amy were there too and guess who? The baby! I love babies! I wanted to get a good peek at him, but my Uncle LJ said “no”. He somehow thinks I would hurt the baby! I would never do that, but that’s okay. He is the daddy, so it’s his job to protect him. We got to romp outside and run a bit before getting back in the car to head home.

Wow! What a weekend! I’m totally exhausted so I stayed home today instead of going to grandma and grandpa’s with Ollie and Dad this morning. Just give me my bed and my new toys and I’ll dream of next Monday when my birthday comes and I’m bound to get all the new toys I want! Hehehehehe!

The ony thing cuter than I am

On Wednesday morning I left with Dad and said good-bye to mom on the porch, just as usual. Only thing was that when I got home, mom wasn't home yet. I waited and waited and she just didn't come home. All night, no mom. The next morning I left with Dad again and came home and still no mom. I was getting worried. What could possibly have happened to my mommy? I knew she wouldn't have gone anywhere without me. Then finally late last night, mommy came home. Do you know where she was? Apparently my Uncle LJ and Aunt Amy had a baby! Mom says its the only baby in the family and the first one in 28 years. Mom says he is a little boy and she loved him as much as she loves me! Can you imagine? Well, I can. I really love little kids and I can't wait to meet my new cousin. Anyway, here is a picture of my new cousin. Isn't he the only thing you've ever seen that is more adorable than a WFT puppy? Okay, at least AS adorable as a WFT puppy? So, welcome to the family little fella! I hope you will be ready to roughhouse with me soon!

Will I stay or will I go?

So, I don't know if you all know it or not, but for two months now workers have been at my house everyday working. They have been busy making the house pretty, for what, I don't know, but that's what mom says anyway. So what that has meant to me is that I haven't been at home much. I've been going everyday with Ollie to Grandma and Grandpa's. Little did I know that all this time this is the spoiling Ollie has been getting. Mom says I've gained three pounds going there in two months. I think not; its all muscle. Anyway, the workers are just about finished on the house and now I'm starting to worry...soon Ollie will leave every morning with Dad like he always has and I'll sit at home by myself all day. I know that Ollie is grandma and Grandpa's favorite, but I don't mind playing second fiddle. I wish my other grandma lived closer, then I could go see her and Ollie could go to the other grandparents. this is very complicated and it makes me tired.
Oh, I forgot to tell you the wonderful exciting news! On Sunday I got a visit from Adrianne and her boyfriend Rob. Yes, Adrianne of Adrianne and Huckleberry fame! She came through the door saying my name in a high pitched, friendly way...I just knew she was a foxie person! She was there all the way from Washington state to see me. How wonderful is that? She gave me loads of love and was even nice to Ollie. Her boyfriend Rob was very nice too and I even sat down near his feet and chewed on my bone. That is something I never do with anyone but mommy and occasionally dad. What a wonderful day it was! Thanks for coming to visit me Adrianne! Say hi to Huckleberry for me!

Anna Banna Bo Banna

I'm sure that everyone that reads my blog wishes that they wereblessed with their very own Wire Fox Terrier! Right? Comon', RIGHT?You all know what perfect guy I am. I didn't start out like that, butwhen my mommy and I found each other, I knew I was in the right home andI began to behave. Other WFT's are not so lucky. Some, like AnnaBanana are still looking for the right place. So, Anna is this prettylittle girl who is 18 months old who needs a new home. Anna's fostermom says this about her, "Anna is a handful now but if she could justfind a home with someone who understands the breed and will spend timewith her to teach her manners and give her lots of love. She is verytrainable but would do best in an only dog home. She is living with anolder male wire right now and he is getting sick of her wanting to playall the time." So lets get this straight- there's this little baby WFT girl whoneeds a new home because someone dumped her for being TOO PLAYFUL? Eek!Didn't they know that WFT's are playful? Didn't they know whattotal clowns we are? Didn't she come with a warning? (Note from mom:Mackie, dogs don't come with warnings, silly! They come with loads oflove, tons of kisses, lots of play, the ability to forgive you forwhatever it was you said, or did, or thought, but they don't come withwarnings!) Okay, mom, I got it. But, Anna sounds so good. Anyone outthere who wants a wonderful little girl to call their own and to loveand hug? Just email her foster mommy, Julie at jmjoffee@yahoo.com

Abigail the wonder dog!

I’d like to tell you about Abigail. Abigail is a beautiful little girl Wire Fox Terrier who just came into rescue, but Abby has a unique story.
Here’s her story:
“In October 2006, a number of Fox Terrier Rescue volunteers received and email pleading for help for a young female fox terrier with a broken leg. She was at a vet clinic, but needed to move on to rescue. Not wanting to put her in a shelter, (after all, who would adopt a dog with a broken leg?), or to have to amputate her leg, her family reached out for help from Fox Terrier Rescue.
Terry Cerisoles of South East Fox Terrier Rescue, and Jeanne Sanders and Cheryl Collins of Midwest Fox Terrier Rescue jumped at the challenge and began working on getting Abigail moving on to a new life.
Chuck and Patricia Bigelow, who had previously adopted 2 darling fox terriers from Cheryl Collins, were contacted and asked to help. You see, Chuck is an Airline Pilot with Delta Airlines. They live in Atlanta, and it just seemed like they would be able to help in ways no one else could!
Kathy Lauer of Midwest Fox Terrier Rescue in Minneapolis was then contacted to see if she could get her contacts at the University of Minnesota Veterinary Teaching Hospital to agree to look at Abigail. Abigail needed a good orthopedic surgeon to look at her poor leg - and Kathy knew just the guy..
On October 11th, Abigail made her way to the U of M Vet Hospital to meet with the talented Dr. Roberto E. Novo, the Medical Director and Head of the Department of Small Animal Surgery at the University of Minnesota. (You may remember him from our last special needs crew -
Rebel the Missouri puppy mill dog that needed facial reconstruction. Dr. Novo and senior vet student Nate Rose gave Abigail a physical and looked over the numerous x-rays to determine the best course of action for Abby. All the while, Kathy crossed her fingers that they could save the leg.
Good news came when Dr. Novo decided that the best course of action was insert more stabilizing screws into the rod in Abby's leg, brace it, get her to use it more to promote bone and muscle growth, and wait for a full recovery. And so, on October 12, 2006, Abigail underwent surgery to stabilize her leg, and came through with flying colors.
On Saturday, Kathy and her good friend Diane went to the University, loaded with clippers and scissors to get Abigail cleaned up. If she has to live in a cage for the next few weeks, the less hair to collect dirt and smell, the better. She was matted to the skin in most places, so they had to cut her hair short. Abby was not very happy with the hair cut idea, but she put up with it like a trooper. She is so thin that clipping her became an interesting endeavor because the clipper couldn't really "glide" as there is no fat between her skin and her bones.
Kathy reported "We got to talk to 'Abby's vet student', Nate, and when she saw him, her tail about wagged off! She seems to be a favorite there - she's got a sparkle in her eye and is a doll. Seeing the hardware on on the outside of the leg with the screws going into her leg was a little shocking at first, but by the end of the 3 hour haircut event (we had to take a lot of breaks!), I hardly noticed it anymore."
She will stay at the U of M for a few more days, then move back to Compassionate Care Animal Hospital for a week. And then it's off to her new foster home with Cheryl Collins in Iowa.”

Abby is a mere 10 lbs. Poor little girl, but thankfully she is in good hands now and will be well cared for. If you are able to help Abby, either though a small donation toward her medical care, or if you would like to adopt her, please contact American Fox Terrier Rescue.

I got gypped.

I got gypped. Everyone knew about the big dog show and get together in Pennsylvania on Sunday- that is everyone, but me. I got gypped. Mom and Dad came home clearly smelling like other dogs and with these silly grins on their faces from seeing “the best show on earth”. Um, hello? Did anyone every think that I may want to go too? Mom and Dad kept talking of how they met all these wonderful WFT’s and so many people who just love WFT’s too. Can you imagine all the love I could have gotten on that day? (Somehow I think it would have been a love fest similar to the one Ollie gets everyday at grandma’s). Mom says that most of the dogs were there to work and that most of the people were there to work too and that she didn’t want for me to distract anyone. I guess she thought if I were there in all my studliness that the judges would have had a difficult time paying attention to the dogs in the ring. On the other had, think of all the pretty girls! Although I know none could be as pretty as Miss Sunshade and Opy.

The ice cream man cometh....

http://www.videoegg.com/video/bqbYoZ

Yesterday mom was home with some sinus infection so that meant that grandma and grandpa brought Ollie and I back home when they went off to shop. I thought that was pretty good deal since I got to lay around with mom. The workers were there so it was a little noisy (how was mom ever supposed to get any sleep to get better with them banging on the house?) but I got to be with mom anyway, so it wasn’t all bad. Mom was worried once though because she went to the basement to do some laundry and then she couldn’t find Ollie. She went upstairs, then to the basement, into the kitchen, both bathrooms, “Ollie?”, “Ollie where are you”? (You may think that is a silly question to ask a dog, but Ollie has been trained by dad to speak if you ask him where he is…pretty good, eh?) Still nothing. Mom was worried sick. She said she thought one of the workers had opened the door and let him out, but just about then dad came home and out Ollie came. He wasn’t lost..he was just fooling mom. I don’t think that was a funny game at all. Here’s poor mom already home not feeling well and silly Ollie pulled a prank on her. Geez. I would never do that. However, while I was at home the ice cream man came through our neighborhood and did not stop at my house. Do you believe it? Have I ever told you how much I love ice cream? It is my favorite thing. Well, next to mom and dad, and Sunshade and Opy that is. It is my favorite food and I get very upset when the ice cream man just drives by. Check out my video…mom says it is hilarious. So, off mom and dad went at dinner time and brought me and Ollie back some Mickey D’s ice cream for dinner. Ollie got some too, even after that stunt he pulled on mom. Has anyone noticed what a perfect boy I am? Geez.
